This collage portrait was created as a portfolio piece to show prospective portrait clients. I surrounded the portrait subject with various objects meant to represent “favorite things” which the client might want to show. This affords the client the opportunity to further personalize the portrait.
One of the interesting characteristics of this painting, which was totally unintentional by the way, is that there are no true horizontal or vertical lines. It’s a combination of linear shapes, oval shapes, and circular shapes in repetition—interspersed with shapes from nature. I wanted to do a collage with various items as a design exercise and was not originally intended to be a portrait collage—but it ultimately lead to the concept of acquiring portrait collage commissions.
